PERMANENT HOG TRAPS

In January of 2003 we built our first permanent hog trap in an area that we have had problems with hogs from several years.  We plan to eventually have three of these traps, along with our two portable traps.

This is a trap that you too can build yourself.  You need no special skills.  If you can hammer, saw, and dig postholes then you can build this trap.  No welding is required.  The cost of materials for the trap is about $175.00.

We use cattle pen panels for the sides of the trap.  The door frame is made of 2x4s and 2x6s and the sliding door itself is plywood.

Two 2" x 2" boards are stacked on top of each other to hold the door up.  When the trigger is tripped the string is pulled, pulling out the 2" x 2" boards and the door falls shut.
